What is executive coaching?
Executive coaching is a structured, confidential 1:1 engagement between a senior leader and an experienced coach. The coach helps the leader sharpen how they think, decide, and act in their role.
Coaching is not therapy (which focuses on emotional health and personal history), not mentoring (which shares career guidance), and not consulting (which delivers recommendations). Coaching builds the leader’s own capacity to solve the problems in front of them.
Every engagement includes structured measurement at baseline, 90 days, and 180 days. You see what changed in your own data and decide what to focus on next.
The leadership gap by the numbers
Who is executive coaching for senior leaders built for?
You’re a founder, executive, VP, or senior leader. You want sharper tools and smarter thinking for the stressors, challenges and reality you face daily.
You want a private space to think through the decisions, conversations, and challenges that come with your level of responsibility: your leadership team alignment, a board relationship that needs attention, the strategic bet you’re weighing, the hire that could change the trajectory of your organization.
This program is for leaders who:
- – Lead teams, departments, or companies and want to get better at it
- – Make decisions with organizational consequences and want a thinking partner for the hardest ones
- – Want coaching that measures what changed, not just what was discussed
- We’ve coached founders from pre-revenue through Series D in 37 countries since 1999.
If you’re a manager or director building core skills (delegation, feedback, leading better meetings), the High Performance Leadership Accelerator is a better fit.

Your executive coach: 27 years, 3,000+ leaders coached
Michael “Coop” Cooper
Founder & Head Executive Coach
I’ve been coaching leaders since 1999. Over 27 years, I’ve worked with more than 3,000 leaders in 37 countries. Founders, executives, VPs, C-suite leaders, senior directors.
Before coaching full-time, I spent 15 years in operational leadership (tech, media, nonprofit, startup).
What i’ve observed over that time is the challenges change with the industry and the era. But the leadership patterns are the same. When you describe what’s happening with your leadership team, I’ve probably seen the pattern before. More about Coop.
I built a coaching method (the High Performance Leadership Operating System) that gives you the mindset shifts, skills, and tools for high performance leadership. Science-backed and battle tested so you can use them in your next 1:1, your next board conversation, or your next quarterly review.

86% of organizations that tracked coaching ROI reported positive returns (ICF/PwC, 2024). Most executive coaching programs at this level don’t publish pricing. You find out after a sales call, a proposal, and a follow-up email. I’d rather you know what it costs before you reach out.
$7,500 for four months of focused work on the decisions, conversations, and challenges that define how you lead and the impact you make. Most clients tell me the ROI shows up in the first month and often the first conversation.
Many companies cover the investment through professional development budgets or Learning & Development funds. I’m happy to provide whatever documentation your organization needs. Learn more about executive coaching ROI and how much executive coaching costs.
Executive coaching packages vs. other options
| Feature | Executive Coaching | Therapy | Mentoring | AI Coaching Tools |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Focus | How you lead right now: decisions, conversations, team interactions | Emotional health, personal history, mental wellness | Career guidance and advice from someone more experienced | Generic frameworks and prompts based on your text input |
| Format | Structured 1:1 sessions with an experienced coach, by phone | Regular sessions (weekly or biweekly) with a licensed therapist | Informal, relationship-based, unstructured | On-demand, text or voice interaction with an AI system |
| Measurement | Baseline, 90-day, and 180-day structured assessment | Therapist assessment based on clinical criteria | No formal measurement | Self-reported tracking, no external validation |
| Confidentiality | Fully confidential between coach and client | Fully confidential (protected by law) | Informal, varies by relationship | Data stored by the tool provider, privacy varies |
| Accountability | Coach holds you accountable to commitments you make | Therapist supports emotional processing, not performance goals | No formal accountability structure | No human accountability, relies on self-motivation |
Coaching, therapy, and mentoring are not competitors. Many of my clients work with a therapist and a coach at the same time. The work is different. Coaching focuses on how you lead right now. Therapy focuses on why.
AI coaching tools can suggest frameworks. They can’t hear the thing you didn’t say on a call with your leadership team, read the tension between two direct reports in a standup, or hold you accountable when you backslide on the commitment you made last week.
What executives say about coaching with HPO
“Coop has been an invaluable resource for my executive team and I. As a first time founder trying to scale a new business during a global pandemic, I don’t know what I would have done without Coops strategic guidance and counsel.”
Andrew Berberick
Cofounder, Baton
“From all his reps working with early stage startups, Coop has incredible pattern recognition on everything we have run into. He can speak with a high level of detail towards what has worked and hasn’t worked at other companies, and can abstract away overarching principles to navigate virtually any situation.”
Nate Robert
Cofounder & CEO, Baton
“I had the great pleasure of working with Coop last year. He’s a true master of human communication. His easy-going style and techniques make it easy to discuss and unravel complicated situations. Coop is great at advising through political situations and helping you “lean in” to push forward. ”
Ashraf Karim
VP Product Management, PayPal
“I know and have worked with a number of leading executive coaches. Coop ranks among the best. He is highly intuitive, a superb communicator, extremely insightful, incorporates a broad range of approaches and techniques. He pushes you in a thoughtful way, which really accelerated my learning and growth.”
Jeffrey Balash
Founder & CEO, Comstock Advisors
“He has had the opportunity to coach a number of our leaders to this point and I have heard nothing but amazing feedback on the work that he’s doing. The staff really enjoy working with him and find his approach very helpful and refreshing. In fact, Coop’s coaching and support recently helped one of our leaders obtain a promotion!”
Maira Lazdins, SPHR
Manager, Human Resources, Spark PR
“Coop not only has the uncanny ability to hold a problem and rotate it through space, but also more than enough empathy to create recognition of the depth and width of the problem in his client. I consider myself quite insightful, but working with Coop I’ve found new ways to understand myself, my environment, my career and my business.”
